Intervarsity BioBlitz 2016
The third annual Intervarsity BioBlitz in partnership with Biodiversity Ireland takes place on 29th & 30th September and will involve the following campuses:
Maynooth University
University College Cork
University College Dublin
Each competing campus forms a team of volunteer recorders who are coordinated to record as many species as possible within a set time frame; Intervarsity BioBlitz 2016 will take place between 12.00 on 29th September to 17.00 on 30th September. With training and online support from the National Biodiversity Data Centre, who partners with Green-Campus on the initiative, volunteers are equipped with the information necessary to carry out BioBlitz on their campus. Records are uploaded in real time, providing an exciting and engaging level of competition between campuses and the final tally will be revealed at 17.00 on the 30th September. Complimentary events such as bat, bird and plant walks, moth identification etc provide a further draw for the campus community to get involved.
The Intervarsity BioBlitz is seen as an opportunity to initiate the biodiversity element of an environmental review and to engage the campus community including specialists such as botanists and ecologists from within academic departments. It also provides practical experience of field based work for students.
Many thanks to Biodiversity Ireland for their vital support and partnership on this popular annual event!
